Hemp auction was primarily a bust for Tennessee farmers
Though historic the IHAM (international Hemp Auction) seemed to let down Tennessee farmers who had toiled in there fields to find only a hand full of buyers at this auction. most were troubled by offeringsof 50 cents price per point per pound (PPP) was not what they expected and a lot of sellers took there hard earned work back to the farm with there hopes dashed of quick money. Its a buyers market and there wasn't any buyers.
The steadfast hemp auction was a little more farm friendly and close net but still the buyers were lacking. |

Federal government Legalizes Hemp!

Finally Hemp is being De-scheduled it will no longer be under DEA's thumb but not so fast. FDA will take over regulation of all ingestible products but growing and selling of hemp and hemp products will be left to the states in what is expected to be a 15 billion dollar market. Word from the HIA is that hemp products will fall into "GRAS" category. Which means "generally regarded as safe". which will encourage research and continued growth in the Industry.
The best part of the De-scheduling means that A. farmers can get the same services like crop insurance and USDA farm assistance. B. Banking institutions should open banking and card processing to what is usually a cash business in most states. C. interstate trafficking once illegal without a DEA permit will be left to state growers and processors can work across state lines.

2018 brings new Challenges and faces
With 2017 in the books, we look forward to this season! We have plans to create more inventory this year and present our customers more ways to enjoy our product. The response to our fresh colas (Buds) and hemp infused coconut oil was over whelming and we have to thank our customers.

TNHIA meeting was great with a good turnout. Biggest news is the TDA is only offering 4 monocleious strains and one fiber strain to farmers this year. Licenses will be issued this week and TDA wants seed orders in by April 8! I did get to open Tennessee hemp seeds face book page on the big screen and we took this group photo of 2016 hemp growers!

Late last week the DEA approved Tennessee’s registration request. This week import permit applications were sent to the DEA for approval to bring certified seed into Tennessee. We don’t know how long it will take DEA to approve our import requests, but we were told they were going to thoroughly review each request as well as all of the applications. We cannot order seed until the import permits are approved.

Just in Breaking news "The DEA has approved Tennessee's Registration to import shipments of seed" Now Tennesse will be one of the largest hemp producers in the country with 2200 acres this season. More to come! We want to thank The DEA for there help and The Tennessee Dept. of Agriculture for there continued efforts to get a crop in this year.
4/15/2015 Well its official Tennessee Hemp Seed was issued a license to grow Industrial hemp by the Tennessee Dept. of Agriculture and now were waiting on DEA approval. The CBD bill that passed yesterday is a great example of why we should be producing and marketing industrial hemp here in Tennessee. Thanks to the TDA for there support and support of Tennesseans.
The DEA has asked state officials for more details on planned uses for the crop.

The TNHIA meeting last night was less than disappointing for hemp in Tennessee. Seems the DEA has dragged its feet to the point we are going to have to threaten legal action. a class action suit on behalf of Tennessee farmers against the DEA may be necessary in the future. We the farmers, TNHIA and the support of Vote Hemp The Nation Biggest supporter of legalization are setting steps in place to bring this to a conclusion that supports the will of the state not the DEA. Who was supposed to be defunded from interfering with state laws. The DEA has asked state officials for more details on planned uses for the crop. More below

The Tennessee Ag. Department sent us hemp farmers an e-mail explaining that this might not be resolved and ask us to pick one of three choices:
1. withdraw application and a refund of the license cost.
2. hold my application and when the DEA takes action issue a license or a refund later.
3 go ahead and issue a license and not be authorized to grow until things are settled with the DEA.
We have decide to go ahead and receive the license in case there is some sort of litigation we will be in possession of a License but no hemp seed. For those of you following this we aren't activist just farmers. The DEA isn't winning the war on drugs by Not letting us grow hemp.
At the TNHIA meeting March 12 We talked about a lot of products and product ideas. Some of the TNHIA members had attended a workshop where they were building a "HEMPCRETE " house. They had spent a day mixing, forming, and pouring hempcrete walls for this little quaint house in Denver, CO.
They brought back some great samples of how hemp can be used as a breathable concrete substitute that is strong, durable, and light weight. Using the hemp hurd as the filler instead of gravel makes a 50% lighter mix. Which means there's no risk of blowouts and the use of less forms. One of the benefits is that you can stucco right over the product indoor and out saving on drywall, brick, or siding cost. It was a great meeting and ended with us networking with each other to see our way forward. |
